I. FAQ

Member Discount

Where can I find the code to receive my 20% off member discount?

Click here. Alternately, log in to your profile by navigating to www.americanalpineclub.org. Click on the “Discounts” button under “Benefits.”

I forgot to enter my member discount code. Can I receive the discount retroactively?

No problem—send an email to store@americanalpineclub.org with your order number and we will refund you the amount of the discount.

Magazine Subscriptions

How long after I place my order for a magazine subscription will I receive my first issue?

We submit our list of new subscribers to our magazine partners at the beginning of each month. From the time that we send the list, it typically takes four to six weeks for you to receive your first issue, however Alpinist subscribers may not see their first issue for eight weeks or longer, as Alpinist is a quarterly publication.

I'm only asked for my billing address on checkout when I try to purchase a magazine subscription. Why can't I enter my shipping address?

Magazines will be sent to whatever you have set as your current address on your member profile. Please verify that we have the correct address in order to avoid delays in receiving your first issue. To do so, log in to your profile at www.americanalpineclub.org and click on the "Edit Profile" link in the top left corner.

Shipping, Returns, and Damaged Goods

Do you ship to international locations and APOs?

Yes. Please keep in mind that, depending on the destination, international shipping can take several weeks due to customs procedures.

How long will it take for me to receive my order?

Designated shipping times are approximations calculated by the United States Postal Service and not guaranteed delivery dates. While the estimated time is often accurate, please allow up to 10 days for items shipping within the United States and 20 business days for international orders.

Can I return my order?

Of course, though we hope you won’t need to! If you aren’t satisfied with your purchase, please email store@americanalpineclub.org to request a prepaid return label. Simply print the label, tape it to the package, and put it in the mail. Once we have received the item, we will inspect it and, upon passing inspection, credit your card for the item. Please note that shipping is nonrefundable. Read our full return policy for more information.

What if my item is damaged?

Unfortunately, packages are sometimes damaged in transit. Please email us at store@americanalpineclub.org within 48 hours of receipt to report damaged goods. We will email a return shipping label for you to print and tape to the package. Once we have received the item we will send you a brand new one or credit your card for the item.

Have a question not answered here? Please send an email to store@americanalpineclub.org.

II. Returns & Refunds

Thanks for shopping at the American Alpine Club Store.

If you are not entirely satisfied with your purchase, we’re here to help.

Returns

You have 30 calendar days to return an item form the date you received it.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. All tags must be on the product.

Refunds

Once we receive your item, we will inspect it and notify you that we have received your returned item. We will immediately notify you on the status of your refund after inspecting the item.

If your return is approved, we will initiate a refund to your credit card (or original method of payment). You will receive the credit within a certain amount of days, depending on your card issuer’s policies.

Lost or Damaged Goods

Unfortunately, packages are sometimes damaged in transit. Please email us at store@americanalpineclub.org within 48 hours of receipt to report damaged goods. We will email a return shipping label for you to print and tape to the package. Once we have received the item we will send you a brand new one or credit your card for the item.

In the case of non-delivery, please wait for 15 days from the date of shipment in case it has been delayed by the postal system.

Shipping

You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs to return your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the return cost of shipping will be deducted from your refund.

Contact Us

If you have any questions on how to return your item to us, please email store@americanalpineclub.org or give us a call at (303) 384-0110.

III. Backorders & Pre-Orders

The American Alpine Club Store does not provide the option to backorder any items.

Preorder items will ship as soon as we receive them in our headquarters. Please keep in mind that the arrival date is an estimated time frame and subject to change.

If you have purchased in-stock items along with your preorder item, these will ship separately. We want you to receive your in-stock item(s) as soon as possible.

Please note that preorder items will include a low additional handling fee.

IV. Low Inventory

Occasionally, our inventory count may be a bit off. If you have purchased a product that has run out of stock, you will be notified within 48 hours.

You will be presented the option to exchange for another item of the same or lower price or request a refund. If you would like to exchange for an item of higher price, we can charge the difference over the phone. We do NOT take credit card info via email because we want to make sure your information stays private.

If you do not respond within one week of initial contact, we will cancel your order and initiate a full refund.

V. Privacy Policy

We know that you care how your information is used, and we appreciate your trust that we will use it carefully and sensibly. This notice describes our privacy policy. By visiting us, you are accepting the privacy policy described below.

  1. What Personal Information Do We Collect?
  • Information You Provide. We receive and store information you enter. For example, when you search for or buy a product or service, or when you supply information such as your address, phone number or credit card. You can choose not to provide certain information, but then you might not be able to take advantage of some of our features. We use the information that you provide for such purposes as responding to your requests, customizing future shopping for you, improving our website, and communicating with you. In addition, if you choose, we may share your information with other companies who provide goods or services that you are interested in. Please see the "opt-in/opt-out" selection in Section 4 of this policy.
  • Cookies. Like many websites, we use "cookies". Cookies are small programs that we transfer to your hard drive that allow us to recognize you and to provide you with a customized shopping experience. If you do not want us to use cookies, you can easily disable them by going to the toolbar of your web browser, and clicking on the "help" button. Follow the instructions that will prevent the browser from accepting cookies, or set the browser to inform you when you receive a new cookie. In addition, you may visit this and other websites anonymously through the use of utilities provided by other private companies.
  • Other Information: Every computer has an IP (Internet Protocol) address. IP addresses of computers used to visit this site are noted. In addition, we automatically collect other information such as email addresses, browser types, operating systems, and the URL addresses of sites clicked to and from this site.
  • Information from Other Sources. We might receive information about you from other sources and add it to our account information. This may include updated delivery and address information from our shippers or other sources so that we can correct our records and deliver your next purchase or communication more easily.
  • How Do We Use Your Information?
  • Customized Shopping. We use your information to better serve you by providing a customized shopping experience. As noted above, you may "opt-out" of this customization, or even visit and shop anonymously.
  • Special Offers. We may send you special offers from time to time, unless you choose to "opt-out" of receiving such offers. In addition, we may also send you special offers from other companies. Again, you may "opt-out". If we send you offers from other businesses, we do not share your personal information with them. The offers come directly through us. Please see the "opt-in/opt-out" selection at the end of this policy.
  • How Do We Protect the Security of Your Information?
  • We work to protect the security of your information during transmission by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts information you input.
  • We use encryption to protect your information contained in our customer list.
  • We use a firewall to protect against unlawful intrusion.
  • We limit access to your information on a "need to know" basis.
  • We transmit the entire credit card number over an SSL to the appropriate credit card company for processing.
  • It is important for you to protect against unauthorized access to your password and to your computer. Be sure to sign off when finished using a shared computer.
  • No system can guarantee absolute security, just as the finest lock can not guarantee physical security. However, we take every reasonable precaution to assure that your data is secure.
  • Your Choice:  Opt-in or Opt-out.
  • It is your choice whether to receive emails or special offers from us or others.  The following section provides you with this choice.  Please note the default settings are automatically setup when your account is created.
